Microcredit for Livestock Development and Environmental Protection through Biogas Production in HoaBinh Province

To protect the environment and public health while allowing poor households to create sustainable livelihoods through raising livestock, the Microfinance and Community Development Institute (MACDI) cooperated with the Organization of International Partners Zebunet (France) to build the project “Microcredit for Livestock Development and Environmental Protection through Biogas Production in Hoa Binh Province”.
The project was funded by the Embassy of Luxembourg with EURs 12.000 and has been performed by the Microfinance and Community Development Institute in collaboration with Zebunet. The overall objective of the project is “To build sustainable livelihoods and improve the quality of living for ethnic minorities in two communes (Cu Yen and Tan Lap, both belonging to HoaBinh province) through the exploitation of economic, social and environmental benefits from the biogas project with animal waste from households and through the development of a market-oriented sustainable biogas sector.”

The specific objectives contribute to the overall objectives including: prevention and reduction of environmental pollution from animal waste, generation of clean and inexpensive energy for rural people, provision of by products from biogas for cultivation, animal husbandry, the formation of social and economic organizations which specialize in biogas and the construction of the biogas industry towards a sustainable market supported by independent businesses.
