Sustainable Livelihood Through The Green Finance Funds For Forest Protection and Biodiversity Conservation in Quang Nam

In the framework of the USAID Green Annamites Activity, the purpose of the grant “Sustainable livelihood through the Green Finance Funds for forest protection and biodiversity conservation at Quang Nam province, Vietnam” is to contribute to livelihood improvement for local people in order to reduce pressure on forest and conserve biodiversity in Dong Giang district, Quang Nam province. To obtain the aforementioned overall goal, the following specific objectives were set:

  • To enable local producers to have a better access to microfinance for investing into their livelihood development activities;
  • To improve local producer’s capacity on financial management through financial education activities in order to sustain their business models; and
  • To link value chains of local products to potential market for increasing income for local producers.

Within the total value of the USAID Green Annamites Activity of 20.000.000 USD, MACDI was sub-awarded 198.000 USD to carry out the sub-project “Sustainable livelihood through the Green Finance Funds for forest protection and biodiversity conservation at Quang Nam province, Vietnam” by ECODIT, the main awardee of the whole project.

With the duration of 2 years from 8/2018 to 8/2020, the sub-project is implemented in 10 communes and 01 town of Dong Giang district, Quang Nam province. The following activities was set up and have been implemented by MACDI in order to achieve the objectives and overall goad of the project:

  1. Establishing The Green Finance Fund Dong Giang (GFF):
    • Establishing 01 office of GFF Dong Giang and 11 transaction points in 10 communes and 01 town
    • Communicating about Green Finance and establishing credit saving groups in the community
    • Holding trainings on microfinance, GFF operation scheme and financial education for the customers
    • Lending and calling for voluntary saving from the community
    • Organizing workshops of sharing experiences in business and capital management for the community
    • Operating and maintaining green finance groups

2. Linking value chains of local products to potential market:

    • Organizing trainings on planting, sustainable collecting and processing of Ba Kich product
    • Establishing local marketing groups
    • Training on marketing skills for the community
    • Registering brand for local products
    • Organizing workshops and conferences in order to look for potential market for local products
    • Organizing trade promotion and linking markets for local products
